This only refers to a late 80s revised video edition and film re-release of the film. All of the PD company prints of this film I have come accross have been the original release version. I have the late 80s video version (on RCA-Columbia Pictures Video from memory) and it is clearly marked as Copyright 1987.
For the copyright in the original version to exist after 1990 a renewal also had to be lodged by December 31 1990. No renewal was lodged so the original film and all its original underlying works are Public Domain. The versions thats up here and and on Alpha Video, etc is the PD version.
